Kick-Off Party for Lake Oswego Reads!

Lake Oswego Reads Homepage

Masud and Mariano
Mariano Deorbegoso and Son will perform authentic Spanish music at the Lake Oswego Public Library on Tuesday, January 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Deorbegoso and Son, who also appear at local restaurants, delight their audiences with upbeat, passionate guitar and vocal music. The free concert is the kick-off program for an exciting citywide reading project, Lake Oswego Reads, which includes a month of entertaining events.  The focus for Lake Oswego Reads is the highly-acclaimed book entitled The Shadow of the Wind written by Spanish author Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

Everyone in the community is invited to enjoy reading The Shadow of the Wind, which takes place in Barcelona, Spain.  Readers can then immerse themselves in a month of delightful programs that will help them savor the book even more.  These fun and informative experiences provide a chance for participants to immerse themselves in the book by discussing its pages, eating its foods, drinking its beverages, dancing its steps, learning about its history, and connecting to other readers.  Anyone may attend the Lake Oswego Reads events, even if they have not yet read the book.

Although many cities around the world have held successful community reading events, the 2007 Lake Oswego Reads celebration is the first of its kind in Lake Oswego.  Cyndie Glazer, the Lake Oswego Reads coordinator, states, “Lake Oswego is a vibrant, creative community and our Lake Oswego Reads program is designed to provide a common focus, inspired by reading a wonderful book.  The program gives high school students and adults the opportunity to explore together how literature affects our culture.”

Thanks to the Friends of the Library, 800 complimentary copies of The Shadow of the Wind will be distributed to Library card holders at the January 9th concert.  The Lake Oswego Reads series is sponsored by Lake Oswego Public Library, West Coast Bank and the Friends of the Lake Oswego Library.  For a complete listing of Lake Oswego Reads events, please visit
