It’s important to be informed citizens and consumers of information. The Lake Oswego Public Library is offering the following events to dig into the topics of fake news, privacy, and understanding the Internet.
Learn to distinguish truth from fiction using critical thinking strategies. The workshop uses real world examples of political ads, news headlines, logical fallacies, graphs / charts, the effect of word choice in messaging, statistical data and other types of information in a “what do you see here? / what is missing?” type of format.
Learn about how Google works and how to use it effectively to find the information you are looking for online. Learn to craft good queries, understand search results, and refine your searches to find what you are looking for. Evaluating the accuracy of information found and the authority of websites consulted will also be covered. No sign up necessary.
