February 2: Why Did so Many Succumb to the Siren Song of Nazism?

Monday, February 2nd - 7:00 pm at Marylhurst University Library

Professor Brian Els, Department of History at University of Portland will speak about how Doerr’s novel touches on a great number of themes related to power, responsibility, and the results of decisions people make even when they are young.  What does it mean to come of age in a time of economic chaos and dictatorship?   Werner’s character, in particular, challenges the reader to question how we might respond to the subtle enchantment of totalitarianism.
