Jefferson Parkway Construction Closure Will Shift East in Early July

Jefferson Parkway construction is underway. A segment from Westlake to Spinosa currently is closed. Watch for signage changes and plan to use alternate routes. Only residents who can’t reach their homes any other way are admitted through the closure, on specific access routes (described below). See below for closure details and these additions to the work schedule:

  • Crews will work inside the road closure on Saturday, June 23.
  • Crews may work until 8 p.m. on paving days.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather, availability of crews, materials or equipment, and other variables.

Until early July: Westlake to Spinosa closure

The current closure is from Westlake Drive to just west of Spinosa. Follow detour signage around the work area.

  • Neighbors who live on Mountain View Lane have access from Westlake drive.
  • Neighbors who live on Creekside Terrace have access from Kingsgate Road.
  • Kingsgate is closed at Jefferson Parkway except as access for Creekside Terrace residents.
  • Spinosa remains accessible only from Kerr Parkway.

Note: The Mountain Park Community Garage Sale is June 23 and 24. The City is working with Mountain Park staff to make sure visitors have access to all the sales.

Starting early July: Spinosa to Abelard closure

In early July, the work zone and closure points will shift east between Spinosa and Abelard Street.

  • Neighbors who live on Spinosa will have access to a segment of Jefferson Parkway via Westlake or Kingsgate.
  • Neighbors who live on Abelard will have access via Kingsgate and Aquinas, and from the direction of Kerr Parkway.
  • The western intersection of Cervantes and Jefferson Parkway will be closed.

Later this summer

Later in July the work zone and closure points will again shift east — from Abelard Street to just west of Kerr Parkway. The contractor will work with neighbors on streets that have limited access.

Crews will return to each area for final top paving and striping.

Days, hours and detours

Crews generally will work Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and some Saturdays. Paving days may have later hours, if needed.

However, when the road has been ground down, full road closures (sometimes called “hard” closures) with detours will be in place 24 hours per day, seven days per week. During a full closure, everyone (including residents) must follow the detour routes or find another route.

Residents on streets accessible at only one location from Jefferson Parkway will have a very specific route to access their street (either from the west or east), depending on the location of the work zone. Neighbors on these streets should watch for signage changes and follow any instructions from the contractor.

Pavement grinding will make the road unsafe and unfit for travel during construction. Follow all traffic-control signage and avoid active construction areas, for the safety of all.

Schedule: May – September 2018 (major work June – August while school is on break)

Project: Includes reconstruction of the Jefferson Parkway road surface from Westlake Drive to Kerr Parkway (see the map), curb ramp replacements, new signs, and striping. This is a pavement rehabilitation project and does not include sidewalk.

Traffic impact: Jefferson Parkway will be closed in phases. Watch for detours over the summer. Access will be coordinated for neighbors who must use Jefferson Parkway.
