The Pedestrian Safety Enforcement is a grant through the Bicycle Transportation Alliance to bring awareness to drivers regarding pedestrians. Generally, pedestrians have the right of way in marked or unmarked crosswalks. On a multi-lane road, such as A Avenue, a driver must stop and remain stopped until the pedestrian has moved beyond the adjacent lane of travel, i.e., a driver cannot move until the pedestrian has created a one-lane buffer. On a two-lane road, such as B Avenue, drivers must stop and remained stopped until the pedestrian has reached the other side of the road. The Lake Oswego Police Department runs two events per year to bring awareness to drivers.
