LAKE OSWEGO – The Lake Oswego Police Department will be working in partnership with Oregon Impact to participate in high-visibility DUII enforcement details with other law enforcement agencies across the nation on various dates in 2016. These special details have the focus of reducing the number of impaired drivers on the roads. The next high-visibility enforcement detail scheduled by Oregon Impact is set for the Memorial Day weekend (May 27--30, 2016). In addition to the scheduled high-visibility enforcement, the Lake Oswego Police Department will continue to focus on regular duty enforcement and apprehension of impaired drivers.
A driver may be impaired by a number of intoxicants to include alcohol, illicit drugs, and prescription medication. If a driver is arrested for DUII, they may be subject to a number of monetary fines, have their license suspended, and/or spend time in jail.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2013 there were over 10,076 fatalities as a result of alcohol-impaired driving crashes, which equated to about 1 fatal DUII crash occurring every 52 minutes. The rate of alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal motor vehicle crashes was 4 times higher at night.
The Lake Oswego Police Department asks that you stay safe, take care of your friends and family, find a designated driver if needed, and keep others from driving if they appear impaired. Please act responsibly and drive sober.
