I am contacting you because you attended a public forum on April 11, 2013, regarding proposed amendments to the Nonconforming [LOC 50.01.006] and Adjustments, Alternatives and Variances [LOC 50.08] code sections. These amendments are a component of the Code Streamlining and Updates project, which has been on going for over a year now.
Concepts for proposed amendments to the Nonconforming and Variance code sections were presented at the April 11 public forum, and it was anticipated that the draft code amendments would be available this past summer; however, this task was pushed out to the fall in order to accommodate staff caseload changes. Additionally, the Planning Commission asked staff to postpone the public hearings on this project in order to allow the Comprehensive Plan Update to be substantially completed first.
After the public forum on April 11, I met individually with members of the FAN-FH and Lake Grove Neighborhood Associations to further discuss issues that were specific to these neighborhoods and was in touch with members of Evergreen and Old Town NA's. I had suggested to everyone that we meet again after the code amendments were drafted.
The draft code amendments for the Nonconforming and Variance code sections are now available and the Planning Commission will hold a work session to review the draft amendments on Wednesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The agenda and packet for this meeting, which includes the draft code amendments, are available at the following link:
You are all invited to attend this work session. In addition, I will be contacting the FAN-FH, Lake Grove, Waluga, Evergreen and Old Town neighborhood representatives soon to continue to discuss neighborhood-specific issues associated with the proposed amendments.
Please note that although the Planning Commission will be holding a work session for the draft amendments on November 13, the actual public hearings for these amendments will not be scheduled until February, 2014 at the earliest (actual date TBD). During the next few months, staff will continue discussions with specific neighborhood representatives and hold another general public forum to present and discuss these proposed amendments.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am out of the office until November 12; however, I will be checking my work email periodically before then.
