Attention Solar Eclipse Viewers - Do Not Use Free Glasses Provided by the Public Information Office

Attention Solar Eclipse Viewers
Do Not Use Free Glasses Provided by the Public Information Office

The City of Lake Oswego would like to provide you with important safety information related to the free solar eclipse glasses provided to some residents over the last few weeks by the Public Information Office. Because safety is among our highest priorities, as a precaution we are reaching out to our community and advising them that the free solar eclipse glasses may not comply with industry standards and therefore should not be used to observe the solar eclipse.

The City has not received confirmation from the supplier that the free solar eclipse glasses were sourced from a recommended manufacturer who used the correct ISO testing method and standard.  We want residents to have confidence in the items the City of Lake Oswego provides to our community, and ensure these items are safe and comply with all safety standards.  We recommend you DO NOT use the free glasses the City provided to view the sun or the solar eclipse.

For information about safely viewing the solar eclipse, please visit the NASA website at https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety. Any other questions, please call the Public Information Office at 503-635-0257.
