Lake Oswego Celebrates 25th Year as a Tree City USA

Posted Wed, 04/02/2014 - 3:58pm

This April, the City of Lake Oswego kicks-off its celebration of 25 years as a Tree City USA (TCUSA)! TCUSA status is awarded by the National Arbor Day Foundation to communities that demonstrate a commitment to managing and caring for trees. Over the last 25 years, Lake Oswego has met TCUSA standards by maintaining a tree board, tree ordinance, minimum $2 per capita expenditure for tree planting and maintenance, and organizing an annual celebration and proclamation of Arbor Day.

In honor of this benchmark anniversary, Lake Oswego’s Urban & Community Forestry program will be celebrating trees with workshops and events every month throughout 2014, starting in April.

Ways to Celebrate
Participate in Lake Oswego Arbor Week, April 6 – 12
Arbor Week Festival kicks-off the celebration in Millennium Plaza Park on Sunday, April 6 from 12-3 p.m. Don’t miss live music, free refreshments, kids’ activities, and loads of prizes! The festival includes a special 25 year Tree City USA presentation at 1 p.m. and a tree planting and care workshop at 1:30 p.m. Arbor Week is April 6 – 12; other Arbor Week events include an ivy pull, Heritage Tree dedication ceremony, kids’ Arbor Week story hour and tree-themed puppet show.
