Surveying

Surveying is the science of making precise measurements of the Earth's surface with the aid of complex optical and electronic instruments. Surveying and mapping is handled by the Engineering Planning Division and is of vital importance for exploration, preservation of natural resources, and land development within Lake Oswego.

The Geographic Information Services (GIS) program is an integral part of the Surveying and Mapping Division. It utilizes an integrated system of computer hardware and software designed to efficiently manage data related to positions on the Earth's surface.

Maps produced by GIS are available for purchase at Lake Oswego City Hall. Printable and online interactive maps are available at the City Map Center.

The City's CAD Standards are also available on line.

The Survey Division has established a network of precise vertical control throughout the City. See the attachments below for a description and index of these benchmarks or go directly to a map of the benchmarks.
