LO Speaks!

Join the Youth Leadership Council for the Inaugural LO Speaks program!

The Lake Oswego Youth Leadership Council (The Youncil) is excited to bring you the LO Speaks program in partnership with LO Reads on February 3, 2018 at Lakeridge High School’s Auditorium. The theme for LO Speaks is Untold Stories and will feature youth, community, and business leaders from Lake Oswego and beyond for a morning of TED style talks.

Speakers include:

How Not to Chop Down a Tree Ian Reeves, Spanish Teacher, LOSD
Money, The Next Generation, and Changing the World  Amy Pearl, Executive Director, Hatch Innovation
Topic TBD Tricia Hasbrook,  Executive Director, Victory Academy
In Misadventure, Too Steve Duin, Columnist , The Oregonian
In Livable Cities is the Preservation of the Wild Mike Houck, Executive Director, Urban Greenspaces Institute
Wrong Turns: Finding Answers for Chronic Autoimmune Disorders Claire Fennell, published author and LOSD student
Not All Abuse is Visible: Emotional Abuse in Teenage Relationships Isabelle Cullen, former LOSD student and UO Freshman

 

Each speaker will share a 10 minute story or life lesson on various topics not commonly discussed, from hidden emotional abuse in teenage relationships, to the challenges of directing a non-profit. Moderators from the Youth Leadership Council will tie in each topic with some of the themes present in the 2018 LO Reads selection, Good Morning, Midnight. Join the Youncil for an engaging morning of diverse speakers, conversation, and thought-provoking untold stories! Light concessions will be available, with proceeds going to cover costs for the Youth Leadership Council to attend the National League of Cities Congressional Cities Conference as youth representatives of Lake Oswego!
